Combining Bridge Statements with Self Support

(Post 3D in a series. Click here to read from the beginning.)

You can use, on their own, one or more, of the original “logical mind” bridge statements that I gave you (in Post 3B of this series). But you can also explore, and I suggest that you do, combining the bridge statements with one of the body-centered self-support techniques.

You could think of the “logical mind” bridge statements and the body-centered self-support techniques as reinforcing each other . . . thereby potentially increasing and perhaps even doubling the benefit!

You can combine, for example, the basic acknowledgement statement and the self-hug . . . or one of the two other self-support techniques.

Place one of your hands on your heart and simply feel the rise and fall of your breath. Place your other hand on your forehead. Ideally, you will focus your attention on the sensations of warmth and pressure. Another option it to place one hand over your heart, and the other hand on your lower abdomen. Again, focus on the sensations of warmth and pressure.

Here is another possibility. Combine the “Stating Your Current Reality,” with one of the self-support techniques.

You could also try this: Combining this reminder statement . . . with one of the three self-support techniques.

Or you might combine “re-orienting” (with any one of the three self-support techniques). You simply scan the room you are in, looking, for example, for 5 blue objects, while at the same time, doing one of the self-support techniques.

Remember this is for helping you to move out of a defensive orienting response into an exploratory orienting response. So why not do a little self-support WHILE you are moving OUT of the defensive response? In some cases, it might be useful, just as another little reminder, to add this statement (below) to the beginning of any Bridge Statement:

Now, I could go into greater depth in any of the posts in this series. But I am not going to do that now. I am more interested in you learning to apply everything in these posts to your daily life and your “in the moment” challenges.

Keep in mind, that your subconscious is a master of ingenuity. It is a master strategist. If it gets a little nervous, about you doing something different, it will try another “tack” to distract you. But now you know what to do!
